Of Bound and Scattering States of Three – Nucleon Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
A variational technique to describe the ground and scattering states below the break–up threshold for a three-nucleon system is developed. The method consists in expanding the wave function in terms of correlated Harmonic Hyper-spherical functions suitable to handle the large repulsion contained in the nuclear potential at short distances; three body forces have also been considered. The inclusion of the pp Coulomb repulsion in the p–d processes does not cause any particular problem, since no partial wave decomposition of the interaction is performed. Accurate numerical results are given for ground state properties and scattering lenghts, phase shifts and mixing parameters at three different energies of the incident nu-cleon. The agreement with other available results and with experimental analyses is higlly satisfactory.

Information obtained from nucleus as a bound system of nucleons and from nucleon-nucleon scattering experiments is a strong tool for studying various aspects of nuclear forces. Deuteron-deuteron scattering as a four-nucleon system can provide useful information. So, scattering experiment of a polarized beam of deuteron with kinetic energy of65 MeV/nucleon from a liquid-deuterium target was done...
متن کاملA High-Precision Variational Approach to Three- and Four-Nucleon Bound and Zero-Energy Scattering States
The hyperspherical harmonic (HH) method has been widely applied in recent times to the study of the bound states, using the Rayleigh-Ritz variational principle, and of low-energy scattering processes, using the Kohn variational principle, of A = 3 and 4 nuclear systems. When the wave function of the system is expanded over a sufficiently large set of HH basis functions, containing or not correl...

A modified version of the Faddeev three-body equation to accommodate the Coulomb interaction, which was used in the study of three-nucleon bound states, is applied to the proton-deuteron scattering problem at energies below the three-body breakup threshold. A formal derivation of the equation in a time-independent scattering theory is given. Numerical results for phase shift parameters are pres...

متن کاملTrinucleon Photo Reactions with ∆-Isobar Excitation: Radiative Nucleon-Deuteron Capture and Two-Body Photo Disintegration of the Three-Nucleon Bound State
Radiative nucleon-deuteron capture and photo disintegration of the three-nucleon bound state with two-body final states are described. The description uses nucleon degrees of freedom extended to include the excitation of a single nucleon to a ∆-isobar. The baryonic interaction and the electromagnetic current couple nucleonic states and states with a ∆-isobar. Exact solutions of three-particle s...
